Mrs. Amanda Fields (She/Her), LCSW, CAS
I’m from the Oregon coast and have been in Denver for almost 20 years. While I miss the ocean, I do not miss all the rain and frizzy hair. I enjoy being in nature, soaking up the Colorado sun, spending time with my three spirited dogs, hiking with my husband, trying new restaurants with friends and going to as many concerts as possible.
As a child I experienced developmental trauma, tried to be perfect, had tons of anxiety and was very critical of myself. I worked hard chasing approval of others and exhausted myself. With the help of therapy, I realized that I needed to improve the relationship I had with myself, slow down and learn how to “be” instead of all the “doing”. I decided to help others with similar issues.
I graduated from the University of Denver (DU) Graduate School of Social Work (GSSW) with an Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) Certificate in 2007. I’m a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and certified addictions specialist (CAS). I also trained Guide Dogs for the Blind for seven years. I have been an adjunct professor at DU GSSW and am also a full time therapist treating co-occurring substance abuse and mental health disorders for clients ages 12 and up in Denver, Colorado. I worked 2 years at Shiloh Home as a therapist for juvenile sex offenders and 15 years as a therapist at Denver Health. With over 17 years of experience, my career has been focused on working with traumatized/anxious/depressed teens, families and adults.
Calais is a 10 year old golden retriever. She is a career changed Guide Dog for the Blind. She has worked as a therapy dog most of her life in the school setting and in Amanda’s private practice. She enjoys lots of cuddles, zoomies, pets and will nudge you when you stop petting her ;) Calais works Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
